Model applications

MITgcm has been designed for study of both small and large-scales in the atmosphere and ocean.  Its non-hydrostatic capability allows it to address small-scale process, such as convection and mixing over topography. Its use of fluid isomorphisms enables the same hydro dynamical kernel to be used for study of both atmospheric and oceanic phenomenon. Its adjoint capability enables one to study parameter sensitivity and state estimation.
